hiya, does anyone use a pipe expander as an alternative to buying fittings for 15/22mm pipe on heating installs??

not really, why are you planning on buying one , sometimes the pipe can split and depending on the lenth of pipe it probably wont be able to be cut down anynore

Its more messing about, usually the pipe you are expanding has already been cut to size so if it splits you are knackered and have wasted a whatever lenth of pipe used... this is only if it splits though..

I would just use fittings

i do, and at 200 quid for a decent flarer it will take a bit to earn its money i guess. extra 20 quid on the job for bits it is then. cheers

In years one by copper pipe was thicker and fittings were more expensive,so it made sense
now adays copper pipe is thinner and fittings are cheap,so can not see point of using one

I remember when we used to remove the copper fittings off the old pipework removed and reuse to save money, would not think about that now, when I do,may think about a flaring tool
