Hi all,

Just wondering what your thoughts are on the following:

I've been asked to hide some pipework in a wall (the pipework will be plastered over). Currently, 2 plastic pipes (to feed hot & cold in a new kitchen) run in conduits under plaster vertically down a solid wall from the ceiling. Both pipes come out of the wall at around 0.5m above floor level, then go to surface mounted elbows, and then run surface mounted along the wall horizontally to where the kitchen skin will be. However, the customer wants the horizontal bits to also be buried in the wall...

Personally, I like every bit of plumbing to be visible and accessible, and have advised them against doing the above, as I can't see a way to do it without burying some fittings (at least 2 elbows for the change of direction). They, however, evidentally hate pipework....

I have read conflicting opinions elsewhere on the use of Conex pushfit fittings buried in walls (I've never used them). Obviously, if I do go ahead with this, I will run everything in conduits to protect from plaster and expansion, but just wondering what everyone thought about fittings to use? Or would you tell this customer to sod off?

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Mike

I would only use copper and soldered joints in the wall. At the end of the day the customer is the boss and nobody can refuse work so do what they want but cover your back. Put your recommendations in writing to them with reasons and keep a copy on file.
