Hello, can someone help to confirm the following please. I have taken the measurement of steel pipework on a galvanised f & e cistern. The OD of the supply pipe and the feed and expansion pipe is as near as damn it 27mm which i believe will make it 1inch pipework ?. I have used a metric converter and it officially comes out at about 1.06 inch.

Does anyone out there have a useful metric/imperial conversion table/guide that i can use for future reference please.

How far does the steel pipework run? If it's not far then it would be worth renewing it at the same time!

Unfortunately the house which was builut circa 1920 has extensive runs of steel pipework throughout it.

Leo, Pipe (iron) is measured on inside diameter, tube (copper) on outside diameter.
Yours is 3/4"

39 years doing this stuff and i couldn't tell you the od of a steel pipe without looking it up but can tell at 20 paces what it is.

Anyway; curiosity got the better of me since we are talking thous here so i went out to the van with a micrometer  and grabbed a bit pipe
od of 3/4" iron is 26.94mm = 1.0605"
