Agreed. Too much doomsaying.

The trade may be becoming deskilled but it is serving a population who are increasingly deskilled in DIY.

Grandad knew how to change a plug. The new lot don't. There is no imminent end to people who will need to pay tradesmen to sort stuff out. Even if said tradesmen doesn't own a blow torch.
 
Just because you ram a piece of copper through a joist doesn't make you any more skilled than someone using plastic! I've lifted up plenty of floorboards in my time to find a mess of copper underneath with snotty green joints and burnt joists.
And the standard of plumbing in some airing cupboards with vented cylinders is abysmal, I use plastic as much as possible not push fit though and I much prefer it to copper.
