pop up plug advice needed urgently

hi lads ,new to this site but got it from my tiling forum and i need your help asap. i've fitted a wash basin in my bathroom but i keep getting a leak from the pop up plug when i release a bowl full of water .i was wondering have i set the holes right [ against the hole in the built-in overflow outlet]. also is there anything i should/could put under the rubber washer to help it seal in the basin ,i was thinking maybe plumbers mate or boss white ,something non setting.i've tried silicone under the washer but it still keeps happening.the leak definately related to the plug and not the trap because you can see it coming out.cheers in advance lads.

try a basin mate.
its a self sealing nut under sink replaces existing nut.
just to prove a point before you say but its not that....
tape up the plug hole with gaffa tape, then pour water down the o/flo.
you will find it still leaks. now go get a basin mate.

if theres a leak it must be coming from underneath the basin, which means the bottom valve nut isnt holding?

remove the instalation and remake every joint. throw away the rubber washers you were given, and in exchange use a good quality silicone CT-1 or equivalent

on the underside of the basin, literally plaster the valve nut in silicone, rub it in properly with your (protected) finger

by the way...most of these joints fail by over-tightening.
remember hand tight only.

had a similar problem last week, the nuts and washers on some of the cheaper fittings leave a lot to be desired, silocone sorted the leak though!

what are the oval shaped side vents for though,it seems to me that as soon as the plug is in the up positionthe water just runs out through these and has nowhere to go/

Line the overflow outlet with the oval "vents" on the waste put some silicone around the waste under the basin there will be roughly a 8mm gap put the nut back on should be no problem.

Or use a basin mate as said earlier they do work well I've used them before.

how much for a basin mate as compared to a good quality silicone and how long does the silicone have to be left before i can try it?

basin mates are for normal wastes fittings pop ups usually hold ok with the rubber that come with them try looking to see where the leak is from most common is the nut where the rod goes in the back just needs to be tightened
there is no need to line anything up, slots in waste allow overflow on basin to funtion
little tip here you can often tighten the inner part of the waste using a small pair of footprints hooked into the overflow slots from above sometimes this saves removing the basin to stop a leak

sorry steve, had a blonde moment lol I was thinking of normal wastes two srewdrivers in the slots on the waste work aswell

this may be daft and well out but...
the basin is hollow isnt it? i mean internall o/flow and that the slots seat inside the pottery and not protruding out.
ie the right plug ole waste for the sink??????????
