Hi all, i have recently moved into a 1 bed flat, it has a potterton performa 24 combi boiler serving 4 radiators (2 small 1 large and 1 medium size), I have had a new diverter valve and pump fitted and 2 temprature sensors on the heating side fitted. we have plenty of hot water but the water will not circulate on the heating side of things. I have had new 15mm pipes and rad valves fitted and all flushed through, however the boiler comes on for approx 20 seconds, the flow at the boiler gets red hot and then the boiler shuts down and the water doesnt seem to circulate away quick enough. Ive exhausted my local plumbers knowledge and things are now getting very cold. can anyone suggest a possible remedy please.

I would be looking for a valve that may have been shut off under floors etc, perhaps an old 2 port left on the system that has closed or blocked.

Sounds like a blockage some where you say you have had new 15mm pipe fitted they are not crossed by any chance ie flow into a return. drain the system down take all rads off and blow down the flow pipe at the boiler should come out on one side of every rad then do the same with the return this will at least rule out a blockage and that you have no crossed pipes

all pipe work is above the floor and visible, there are no valves or restrictions ?
could it possibly be anything within the actual boiler restricting the return ?

could be sludge has fallen off and caused a blockage somewhere. good place to look first would be the pump, isolate it and drop it out and check the inlet, you may be surprised what you find. And you can also check the pump is rotating freely if it is clear as the next option Id look at is a failing pump

You will need to get a Gas Safe registered engineer in to test pump etc as this requires access to the boiler internals, I assume your plumber is not GSR?

Thank you for all your comments, i called in another GSR engineer who diagnosed the problem straight away, It turns out that the new diverter valve i had fitted was faulty and sticks, the engineer did question weather or not a new one had been fitted, !!, it seemed very corroded and dirty, surely it must have been new it cost me 275.00.., mind you he wont come back to sort it out ???, thanks again everyone

so how can it be the diverter if heats going down the flow and dhw is working then? sorry dont buy that

the heat down the pipe is heat transfer only and the hot water is not as hot as it should be ?
