Powerflushing Microbore ... (Or Not)

I have been given different advice with regard to powerflushing the central heating system prior to having a new boiler fitted.

One engineer has told me that the powerflushing on microbore is fine, another has said that due to it's size is problematic and can cause leaks. He suggested removing the radiators and flushing them outside.

The heating pipes are copper but both radiator pipes are at one end of the radiator as opposed to one at each end as I have normally seen. (not sure if that makes any difference but I thought I would just mention it)

On balance I would almost prefer to have the radiators removed (I think that it would minimize the potential for damage in the pipework) but if anyone has any thoughts on this it would be great to hear them.

should check quality of the water, may not need powerflush , you could use magnacleanse and chemicals

We always use mag with micro bore. Power flush always a mess. Had a few that have destroyed the manifold . Wash outside if vertical drops as sludge never move as flow not sufficient

Put cleaner in 2 weeks before boiler swap and flush hot then take rads off and washoutside and then flush with magna cleanse attached, plus also what has been said in relation to trvs seen as you have old single entry valves

Depends if it is .
copper or plastic.
On drops
compression manifold.
twin entry valves.


if it's copper and none of the rest I would power flush. If it's any of the others, put in cleaner a couple of weeks before install, and clean with magnacleanse. ( other cleaners are available)

don't think you can powerflush single entry valves (unless your sure internal pipe is a third of the rad length) maybe power flush companys can provide definite answer

I take it you mean twin entry ?

I would convert the pipework from twin entry first. I don't really think microbore cleans that well. I always end up replacing parts of the system.

flush the rads outisde when you repipe them ie. remove the twin entry valves. it very very hard to get a good enough flow rate to flush microbore tbh. even with a power flush machine on it.
