Just wanting to know what are good long lasting bits you all use in your SDS & Combi drills?

Are the Bosch multi purpose bits any good?

Cheers

I agree with dancinplumba, mainly because I've bought more expensive ones before & they only last as long as the less expensive ones! Multipacks can be good value sometimes.

Cheapys are fine for sds imho, for drilling metal or wood a decent bit holds its edge for much longer

As Roger said use anything in an sds. If you buy cheap speed bits learn how to resharpen then on a bench grinder. It only takes 10 seconds.

I've found bosch bits to be excellent. The sds are good, and fairly cheap, and the multipurpose hss bits are fantastic.

ok so i take it 6, 8 & 10 are the most common sizes used on a daily basis then?

Do you also just use cheap ones in your combi's too then?

use summat like blue groove bits but with 4 teeth for wood and wot ever local merchants sell sell for steel pvc etc use starrett hole cutters too

Blue grooves/auger bits will only work well in high powered drills, so unless you have a decent combi, forget them.

I'd say 6 (red plugs), 7 (brown), 8 (grey), 10, 12, 14 (various other fixings, Fischer etc) are the ones you want for sds. Always keep at least a couple of 6 and 7mm bits spare on van for when they break.

You'll also want long sds bits for going through walls, better to buy good quality ones that don't go wobbly. Buy these as and when you need them as they can get expensive.

5.5, 6 and 7mm are the most common i use for screws (red and brown plugs). 8s, 10 and 12's occasionally. 600 long 12mm for pilots, 450 long 16,18,25, 900mm long 12,18 and 25mm and a few different armeg shallow cores (300mm long) Anything bigger and it is sds max or diamond.
With the bigger sized drill bits better quality drills are worth the money. They have better spirals for clearing themselves and quatro heads are a bit quicker.
You will probably spend around 2 grand on drill bits. Who said being a plumber was cheap
