pricing a new house

I am pricing a new house at the minute, this is the first time im thinking of pricing it for pipe in pipe system because copper is sooo expensive at the minute.

is it much cheaper in plastic pipe in pipe by upnonor of copper anyone know how much would the saving be % wise.

Uponor MLCP pipe is about 50% cheaper than copper per metre. The fittings are much more expensive though so if you're trying to keep costs down it's not the solution. It's far superior to push fit though so it really depends on what the customer is happy to pay.

cheers mate, just went to see the house today as i was working yesterday, so just was looking to know the % and your a great help.

will get the plans by wendesday and give them to suppilers and let them come back with the difference, used the upnonor pipe in pipe and its great. will price for the pipe to come from manifolds for plumbing and heating the difference of fittings will be made up with installation costs and more.

im not going to use the MLCP pipe and fittings, was looking to use the pex pipe system any experience of that??

No i haven't used that system,that's the one that uses the expanding tool isn't it? It's cheaper than MCLP but I don't have any experience of using it.

I'd like to see the jointing system for myself,but I guess it's better than push-fit.

anyone used that rehau stuff ? used that on new flats in edinburgh you had slip a collar on to the pipe, expand the pipe then put fitting in and crimp the collar and fitting together was gauranteed not to leak supposidly but looked really naff

I know the stuff your taking about wouldnt look to pretty around a cylinder or boiler in a house. The reason why im thinking of the pex pipe in pipe system its just like underfloor manifolds and will pipe all the supplys for plumbing and heating with this pipe and make the rest of the connections above the floor in copper or chrome.
Will price it for both copper and pex with manifolds wouldnt trust a plastic fitting under a floor.

I've used wirsbo quick&easy on many occasions I would definitely recommend it the plastic fittings arent that expensive and its so much quicker than copper and as you have to expand the pipe to push over the fitting you can guarantee each joint where you could forget to solder a joint or crimp a fitting on multilayer.

I've used the rehau stuff it deffinatley won't leak but does look crap not sure how much fittings are probably pretty expensive plus you need to use the expanding tool and pump tool to push the fittings on which is a pain in tight spacers plus if anyone goes to do work on it in the future it will be hassle as it is not very common.

that the pipe im thinking of using, put im not using the expander tool, im going from the manifold to the connection.
from this i can tell that the pipe is cheaper that copper but does anyone know the cost of the manifolds?? have used them on apartments before just dont know the cost

you will need the expanding tool for converting to a size which takes a nut and olive, there is a fitting for it

Yes the tool is quite expensive but i got one for free by ordering a bulk load of tube and fittings.

no dont need the expander tool, the manifolds come with the option of using there compression fitting, with their special liner. do you know what to expect to pay for the manifolds say a 4 port one. I will then just put them together.

rehau is supposedly the rolls royce of plumbing over in germany, i have attended a underfloor heating course for there stuff - mainly commercial - but there house manifolds seem a good idea - isolate any appliance or sanitary ware in house from one point all labelled etc. needs to be put in on new builds or renovation - would be a mare in an occupied house

small bore is easy, the bigger stuff was a nightmare 28mm upwards had to use hydraulic machines that weighed a ton to crimp fittings together total nightmare especially on overhead runs on 2" 3" pipes

nothing wrong with normal push fit ive used hep/poly for years manifolds and 10mm for heating can be either rads or underfloor heating
