Hi,

I have a Vaillant Turbomax plus 824E

i have a bit of an issue wondered if any experts could guide me as to what it is. i have had a plumber friends glance over it but as he does not normally service and fix boilers so doesn't know whats wrong.

the hot water kicks in fine, and flows to correct temperature when i move the setting for it, however the heating does not, ive tried flicking all the switches but nothing, the only way i can get it fire up is when i hit +,- buttons together which as ive researched kicks it into SFHmode (service for heating), however this mode takes it straight to its highest set temp, so what it does is fire up and the rads do get hot but only untill it hits 85 degrees then it shuts off again!

does anyone know what could be the problem.

thanks

Providing gas-related advice to anybody who should not be touching gas and cannot prove their competence is unacceptable. We will take whatever action we deem appropriate to prevent such advice being given

One of our TA's believes he may have an answer which doesn't involve opening the boiler casing.

For that reason I will reopen this thread.

No I'm not.

just handing a

all round.......

These buttons you were pressing to bring up the service message.

Were they on the boiler or a timeclock?

they are on the boiler if the boiler works in service mode and ho****er i was going to say it will almost always be external controlls do you have a wireless room stat this would be the first thing to check try new batteries or reset it or some have an overide switch . Is the timeclock in the boiler or external?
if its in the boiler check its set to on we cant help with anything in the boiler as were bound by law not to encourage people unqualified to play around

im not asking you guys for advice so i can do it myself and i never said that im asking so i can advise my plumber what info i have found from the knowledge of you guys, just seems like everyone here wants to throw there GasSafe weight around - im just after some help and if anyone can pinpoint what the issue is, i dont earn much money and id like to order the parts myself and then i can tell my plumber to fit them which will be cheaper for me, im not stupid enough to mess around with something that could cause harm to my family.

and doesnt the law state that you are able to advise someone if you believe they have a level of competence, well my competence is that is that i will inform someone properly competent!!

That's not the point buddy.

You may very well be genuine in your reason for asking. But then you could be fibbing, we really can't tell and so we dont take the risk.

Supposing that you are genuine in that you won't touch it, there will be half a dozen people reading this thread in the future that will think "Oh that's easy! I can do that!"

They kill themselves. The police find a print out of this thread explaining in detail how to fix the boiler.

The forum owner and the moderators end up having to close the site. Yes it's probably far fetched but I don't want to test the argument.

We do want to help, the best way we can is to ask you to follow the forum rules please.

Or ask your gsr to sign up and we'll happily tell him once he's fulfilled the criteria we request.

Thank you.

Hi nozzzaa, I feel your frustration mate but even you buying the part yourself has a downside, what happens if the part fails? You have to call your man back and he will want paying again and probably a third time once you`ve got the replacement from wherever you brought it but if he buys it then the visit is foc. I`ve been here for 19 months so the guys know me but they wouldn`t tell me either.

funnily enough, most technicians can get hold of the parts, add their percentage and still work out cheaper than what ever you pay for parts, but no one ever believes me. A customer of mine just told me to use his account at the merchants I buy from, which I have done to buy his boiler and all relevant parts and I pmsl when I saw what they were charging him.

i hate town houses the running up and down the extra flight of stairs is worth half a day extra any body else find this to be true? oops wrong topic sorry

Apart from anything else if your Plumber cannot identify the fault and needs pointers from an internet forum. Is he really competent to do the job? Imo at the very least he should be able to identify if its external controls or the boiler at fault.

Sorry but I have sympathy with the Op as to be honest these days tradesmen are so far removed from the average guys wages it is untrue .
Gsr along with all the other so called agencies we all sign up for is nothing but a sham ,everything from first aid to errecting a scaffold tower requires a course and a ticket if done legally, then another for independant scaffolding then a ticket for each piece of equipment you operate then pat testing then first aid and not to forget health and safety I doubt many on here even come close to complying to half the leglistation f they were honest ?
It is all one big money making game that we all get suckered in to .

When I walk into someone's house and they start saying to me it's the so and so my eyes glaze over and I say oh right ok then. I then totally ignore them and go and fault find myself and tell them that I don't want to fit a part off someone else's say so and would rather double check first. 9/10 they are wrong as they are just guessing.

My favourite ones are they want you to bring the part with you. I say ok but you will have to pay for the part and labour to fit it even if it is wrong.

Any engineer that needs the customer telling them what is needed shouldn't be doing the job IMO.
