Has anyone on here recently taken a gas foundation course or completed the required portfolio? I work as a plumbing and heating engineer and the majority of my work is plumbing. I want to do the gas and my boss wants me to do a course before taking the assessments. I obviously want to make sure I know what I need to with working on the gas??

If you are a time served plumber you are a Category 2 and can do a 6/8 week theory course, along with building up a portfolio of evidence, check out the course on the bpec website, it will also tell you where it's being run near you, other certification bodies run them I think but I've taught the bpec, one so know about it

Check out the bpec website, I'm sure it gives a description, it isn't absolutely set in stone as it depends on the work you can be supervised doing

Ive just done the cat 2
Was great, did mine with Kier (global company few billion turnover, in the UK they undertake many county councils repair and service contracts)

Covers everything in the assessment, dangerous situations, fluing, ventilation regs, and alot more.
As said above look ar a site, and have a look at kiers
(They also supply placement with an engineer daily 8 til 4, for 6 weeks roughly covering service repairs and installations in mainly council propertys and for the odd private)
