Hi there,

I have a potential job to replace a CWSC and an F&E tank. The customers have two showers both of which are electric mains fed. The consequence of this is that they don't need as much hot water as a normal 2/3 bedroom house and there are only two of them. Toilets (2) and bathroom taps are all connected to the CWSC. Hot water is obviously from the cylinder. They do have a bath tub but they say they don't use it much.

I know the recommendation for CWSC in a house of this size is 230 liters. My question is, is this regulation or could I put in a smaller tank as I see fit for the customers consumption? I certainly wouldn't want to go smaller than the hot water cylinder, but 230 liters seems like a lot for what they need.

Thanks in advance 🙂

I would stay with at least that size for cold water tank. It's not all that big & although it is plenty for those peoples particular needs, there may be times when it is required. After all, if someone did fill a bath up, it would need the cold tank storage. It might be useful to have the extra for any changes in their plumbing in the future. Also very handy to have plenty storage if mains water is off at road.
Excessive hot water capacity is a waste to heat, but extra cold water storage costs nothing.
