Hello,

I'm moving into a new house next month. It currently has a microbore heating system with the pipes running down the middle of the walls from upstairs, it's not been done very neatly so I'm thinking about replacing it and running the pipes under the floorboards.
I'm just wondering if I should replace with another microbore system or replace with 15mm tube, what are your thoughts? Will swapping to 15mm pipe work be ok for the boiler, which is a combi boiler (only a couple of years old)?

any advice will be really appreciated

Chris

i would allways replace microbore if the option is there 22mm main flow and return Tee'd to 15mm for each radiator will be fine in most situations then its then a balancing act i prefer to use a differential thermomiter and you are looking at a tem difference of about 20 degrees between the flow and return

can the pipes be chased into the walls?
id replace with whats there at the moment..
if your only semi skilled in plumbing soldering and running hard pipe ect can seem abit daunting if its your first time. panning the rout ect testing ect
Have you called a plumber to see what your options are??

Microbore is ok but pipes running down on the surface of walls is rubbish. You could chase them into the walls in the correct size plastic electric trunking.

However most microbore systems are fed and rtn from/to a manifold - (hedgehog type end fitting)
with loads of spagetti off them. The manifold /s will be usually 22mm pipe straight from the
boiler so you could use that again. It will be under the floorboards upstairs.

Then the rule is 2x rads only per 15mm circuit dont put too many on as they will not heat up.

I tried 2x 3.3kw high out put rads in my place on one 15mm feed & rtn ! no way but I was
just being lazy......let us know how you get on ....................centralheatking

Cheers guys, some useful advice. Yeah quite handy at plumbing so not too worried about the actual work, just want to make sure I plan it all first.

i think I'm gonna change it to 15mm while I have the chance. On further reading of other threads I've also realised that some of the rads aren't in the optimum place ie below or next to windows so I'll get them moved at the same time.

Thanks

Rads only needed to be under windows when they were draughty old single glazed jobbies. Not required in newer housing

Dont do under windows - go back to back on internal walls with the drops behind the door opening
good advice from aload of old f....ellas centralheatking
