The clear knobs on my Mother's kitchen taps need replacing (cracked and mouldy). We have bought new ones, but they do not fit onto the spindles (spindle is just too big) so I'm guessing the taps are 'old' sizes (house is about 30yrs old).

Can anyone point me towards a supplier of old size tap knobs, and is there a way that I can properly measure the size?

If needed, I would be happy to replace the whole mixer tap, as long as I could be sure it would fit the holes/pipes.

Thanks
David

Easiest would be to just swap it over. The holes should be a standard distance apart but don't whip the old tap/s off until you've checked the new one will fit.

Mixer tap that old you might as well replace it, the hole distances wouldn't have changed much. Just measure centre to centre on the tails. You can get conventional taps or quarter turn taps, whichever your mum would prefer.

Remember to put new fibre washers on the tap swivels.

And welcome to the forums mate.

Thanks both. Will a new mixer tap fit the pipe diameter? I don't know if the standard diameter has changed in that time?

(P.s. what's a tap swivel?)

ebay is good for knobs (or anybody else for that matter) have a look here ... if the tap is working alright and it's just the appearance of the knobs, I'd be inclined to leave well alone - the classic plastic knobs are only a few quid on ebay...
