Evening all,

I have recently been to a customers house who has a Range Powermax 155 (100ltr) on an open vented system, which she wants ripping out and replacing (due to unreliability and constant repairs needed to it). She specified a combi and so due to 4 adults living there who like to shower, often 2 running at the same time, I suggested a Vaillant 937 or WB Highflow. But after looking at the 22mm gas supply (apprx 10m) running inside the (newish build) house I made it clear that we would need to run a new supply mostly in 28mm to accomodate the combi's demand. This she was not happy with as it wouldn't do the outside of the house any favours (my copper work is pretty good too?!).
So in the end we agreed on a direct (ish) replacement, I've dug around and found a Potterton Promax HE store and an Ideal Istor but I'm not convinced on a) the reliability of these or b) that this is the right way to go.
I'm going to go back to her and suggest an unvented cylinder and system boiler, the costs of which aren't far off a new Promax.

My question is, which unvented cylinder to go for? The current Powermax has a 100 litre store so would have to be the same if not slightly more, prefferably pre-plumbed to cut down on install time. I've seen the Megaflow EcoSystem Fit but most merchants want around £1000 plus VAT, is it worth the extra than say a Range preplumbed unvented cylinder?
I would like to couple this to a Vaillant Ecotec Plus 618 which would give slightly more CH output than the Powermax and do away with the header tank in the loft.

If it's any help, its a 4 bed, 10/15 year old house, 11 rads, 4 hot outlets and 2 showers. I ran the outside cold tap only and got around 20 lpm, but with all cold taps open around 7 lpm and again at the outside tap 3.9bar mains water pressure

Any suggestions on 'reliable' unvented cylinders (as the job's a distance to travel I don't fancy call-backs to repressurise the cylinder once a month!) or any problems I may come across regarding installation etc would be gratefully recieved.

Cheers,
Dave

range tribunes ok as are oso and santon ,better off with a unvented and system boiler set up

Cheers SimonG, that's what I'd heard about Megaflows, how can they cost so much yet still have faults like this. Would a fault like that be covered under their 'lifetime guarantee'?
