went out to a gas fire that had been id, some bloke fitted the fire and the flue was not pulling. another bloke went out and quite rightly id the fire.

im now the third bloke in, ive recommended that the chimmney gets swept before we start looking at getting a liner ect fitted. would this be the best route to go first.

it may just be clogged up from over the years and need a good sweep.

did you try smoke test with open window ,or door first to see if it needs more vent area ? did you preheat the flue for about 10 min ?

if the flue isn't pulling then might just need swept if there wasn't a gas fire in there before, remember to pre-heat flue as SGI said and check if it has a pull then if not would probably need swept have u visually inspected the flue yet ?

Obviously check the location of the terminal, do a flue flow test, check that the construction [ chimney stack is sound, etc]. If ok it might be worth fitting a Colt Top terminal. which works like a venturi to suck on the chimney. If after a failed smoke test a liner prob' won't help.

just an update. went round today to retest not gone for chimmeny sweep yet. done a flue smoke test and this is fine. put fire back in and done a spillage test done one with door closed and windows closed and had a little bit of spillage.opened the door slightly and done another spillage test and it was fine and passed.
the the room has no vent in and the MI's state that normally the fire does not need any ventilation advantagious ventilation is fine. however the way i read it is normally not need being the key word.

because the spillage test passed with the door slightly open i have suggested the fire requires some ventilation so im back there wednesday to put in a core vent and this should solve the problem.
