A screwfix counter is opening round way. What are they like for over the counter service?

I like my screwfix. All staff are nice enough.
The guys on the plumbfix counter do know what they're selling unlike the students at the weekends

pretty good somethings are cheaper but be careful some things are a lot more expensive .

I use regularly, stockport and cheadle both excellent, even better when they get to know you.

My screwfix are rubbish, load of kids who dont have a clue, however i used the screwfix in trafford and they were great, so it realy depends on the staff at the local branch, same as most merchents

My personal opionon of Screwfix is that if DIY and rookies

The professionals won't use them unless they need to because of availability or other out of the blue situation

The prices aren't the best.
The quality is so so
The service is impersonal
And you get the same price as punters.

IMO I rather a local merchant that is insensate and not a large corp putting smaller people out of business to. And will go that extra mile to help. But more importantly will give muggles an rrp and me trade

Screewfix are alot cheaper than my local merchant on alot of things 🙁

radiators, fluidmasters, x100, waste fittings, taps etc... Plumbfix also available through screwfix and cheaper for us guys!

If you want advice you wouldn't go to Screwfix. Good things are that you know the price before you go. You can check availability before you go. You can order in advance and its ready to pick up when you get there. Recently I spent a couple of hundred at my local merchant and when I checked screwfix I could have saved £60. Its open 7 days a week. If your working away you know what to expect, you don't have to go looking for a merchant.

And also....

I don't care about £40 on a job if it's supporting local business

All your doing is encouring the British gas of supplies to become bigger and stamp the smaller guys out.

I would rather 40 pound in my pocket...

X100 is 9.99 at Plumbfix... + vat, my local is about 13 + vat

i just don't like the idea that customers can get stiff cheaper from DIY store than I can from a merchant!? It makes me look like I'm ripping them off then!

Buy from wce chemicals, same products as sentinel and fernox. Ours are branded up in our own logo and details..... Cost abou £2.50 per l bottle their x800 (purple top) is thicker than real x800 and is clear without lumps. I wounder if x800 is just dirty so it looks good when used??

+1. I shop between them and Toolstation. They are right by each other here and I save myself a fortune each year. Not worth being loyal to either one of them I say.

plumb fix lads near me are friendly, but they dont carry enough stock 2 of ea item!!!!!!!!!! so waste of time if you need it now, prices are so so offers ok but otherwise my local independant is as good as or better. only use them for odds n sods or if nearby.

21.5 and 32mm flowplast is nice. Prefer it to other stuff as 21.5 actually has real fitting not just 1.0mm if plastic engagement. They used to do black condensate 21.5m have to buy from whle sale now!

The prices aren't the best. 90 per cent of the time they are the same or better, they also price match.
The quality is so so. true
The service is impersonal. not if you get to know them, but they don't know much
And you get the same price as punters. plumbfix is cheaper then screwfix

Do they have a vacancy for a dirty old man for you to apply for then?
😀

I really really hope so 🙂

I agree about prices but you do get a trade discount on a lot of the stuff if you sign up to plumbfix. As someone else mentioned, I shop mostly between Plumbfix and Toolstation, I sometimes wander over to PTS especially when they had some cracking prices on Stelrad Softlines last year.
I used to shop at a great independant merchants and the guy really knew his stuff but he has closed down now. There's another merchants nearby but I have found out that I have the wrong skin-tone to get the better discounts there, plus they're ignorant sods in there and don't know their arse from their elbows.
If I had a local indie that was anything like the guy who closed down I wouldn't be giving half as much trade to the big boys, except maybe when her with the boobies was on shift at Plumbfix...

Ha you mean one of the two lucys . Blonde one im guessing 🙂

You should try sankeys off dean rd for an independent

I only use screwfix if I am in desperate need of something and they are the closest place, although most of the time they don't have it in stock. I generally just stick to using one merchant where possible, that way I build up a good relationship and get the best possible prices. They also will go the extra mile to help you out if you get stuck.
