Sadly that seems to be the rates around the swest for contract work .

i do very little contract work now due to this pants rates.

Trying to crack into private houses now

This just seems to be the rate now 🙁

Im on £21 a service where I work and £50 a repair.

Although ive never really based me work on what I get per job. I get all my work sent to my laptop at 7am and I tally up what I'll earn if I complete all the work.

Today I had this

job 1 - boiler service and a landlords cert (£42)
job 2 - boiler service, hob service and a landlords cert (£63)
job 3 - breakdown - replaced broken TRV head (£50)
job 4 - breakdown - charged a vessel and cleaned PRV (£50)
job 5 - breakdown - changed pcb on a ferroli f30e (£50)

so in total today ive earned £255, im back by half four and I'm happy.

The rates are lower than when I started out contracting, but I feel happy with what I earn and don't feel I work too hard for my money.

Obviously if I get my work in the morning and ive got 10 boiler services, I'll call up and swap some work to make my day worth while.

I know some jobs are crap for the money, like I get £21 for a back boiler service, but when you weight it up against getting £50 for changing a TRV head like I had to day it makes it easier to swallow.

I love being a contractor but you need to know how to make it worth your while.

I keep my out goings minimal and my earning as high as possible whilst still doing everything to the book with regards to gas safe etc.

£18 a service on the OP is rubbish, but if you can offset that by getting a good rate for breakdowns then you can still make contracting pay 🙂

A bloke I used to work for got work through rig energy. It was for bg and the prices were about the same, it's not too bad as you haven't got advertising etc to pay for and 10 services a day is easily done if a day is well planned.

Also after a few months if you get on with them you bypass rig and sub direct to get on a better rate.

Twenty years ago I used to get £3.75 a service and £5 for a boiler and fire. £2.50 for a repair, you young whippersnappers dong know your born.
