I get very little work from my home town and I recently looked up plumbing jobs on the job centre website, just to find that there was only 1 plumbing job in my home town, a few heating engineer jobs but not much.

Out of curiosity I had a look for jobs within a 25 mile radius and there was 8-10 in each town except mine.
Is this a sign of no plumbing work in my home town? or a case of nobody employing at the moment.

Now my question is would you guys move to get more work, my home town is 80% council or previously owned by council, and 90% of the work I get from my local town is absolutely shambles of plumbing, with pipes in wrong places, leaks that have been sealed by scale and absolutely disgusting pipe work, Now I would be happy as this means more work for me, but when I explain that they will need a lot of work done, they say they will call and never get back to me. everyone is after a quick fix and if it aint broke don't fix it. So I end up doing work and then the other bits break and hey presto, its my fault, no thanks.

the majority of my work comes from villages/ towns out side my own, but this is a minimum of 15 minutes drive, costing a lot of diesel, going to and from every day.

Or am I looking at it all wrong?

on this case, I went to a property, beggining of this year to replace bath taps, got called back about a week later as a joint further down had started to leak, went back that same night as toilet had started overflowing, think that when i fixed one thing the pressure caused another to leak

yeh

I fetted on of those anti limescaler devices before and 6 months later a leak was coming from a hw pipe under bath, went to have a look and it seems the limescale has been beaten back and it was previously making a seal and now its not

not 100% sure if it was the limescale preventor or not but i couldn't explain it any other way

If the figures add up then why not move, new town, new start

If your current town is 90% council then you need work from the council

Many plumbing vans on your area?

15 minute travel is your doorstep, realistically how close do you want the work

Reallistically I want the vast majority of my work from my area, they see my van, see the google maps ad, the local paper i.e. no point advertising in my local area if I'm not getting the work from it. and no way can I afford 5 x papers and the time to set up google for each area.

I am willing to travel but I would expect the majority of work to be from home town not further a field as the ones that are further a field are the ones that I need to find rather then them finding me and my opinion is most people want a local plumber in case there is a problem then they can be there faster then somebody who lives 15 miles away?
