Ok the cust has a 1.5bar twin impeller pump solely for the shower, cold runs pretty well, hot dribbles out, pump kicks in on both, they have a triton moya with the big fixed head, heads about 12" below the cwsc, there's good flow going to the pump from both feeds but with the pump off you only get a dribble (if you're lucky) from the head itself. The cold runs about 1.5 mtrs from the tank and then runs straight down to the pump which is under the bath, the hot cylinder is about 3mtrs from the pump, both supplies run independently In 22mm.

Opinions?

Many things to check

Any strainers or filters in the hot water pipe. And also on the shower valve

Has the impeller snapped off on the hot side of pump ?

Is the hot good in rest of house? Could be an issue with cold feed to cylinder

Also if a scale area, check surry flange for a build up

I didn't check that in all honesty sometime it takes a while or a bit of fiddling for the pump to kick in, I'm guessing this should have been a negative pressure pump?

Probably some other issue.

Try swapping the hot and colds over on the pump (i.e. opposite sides to now) If its still the same its not the pump.

Check strainers on the pump and on the shower mixer. Make sure check valves are functioning OK.

BTW its "independent" not "independant" As we said in school there's no "ant in it"

The thing that's getting me is that with the pump switched off I'm getting barely any water to the head, it's about 8" and circular, 1.5bar would be man enough?

Apologies

With the pump off you won't get much water to the head as the impeller is not moving.

If you bypass the pump by connecting the inlet and outlet pipes together you should get more.

A foot of head isn't much really.
Add some resistance such as a few elbows and a flow switch and there might not be enough flow to start the pump.

I've had this problem before and solved it with a negative head pump.

this is what i'd do if it helps, disconnect the hot outflow under the bath put a bit of pipe with an iso on it and a flexi into a bucket
you can then test wether the pump starts when you turn on the iso.
this should tell you either new pump or new shower

thats all rite then 🙂

I am a part time proof reader for a magazine and it's hard to quit............

However errors on paperwork may seem trivial but it is something that customers do tend to notice

I used to do all the technical reports and proof read the brochures when in the engineering field.

Proof reading is easy money and you can fit it around your work schedule. I will happily do more if I get the offer.

And, yes, plumbing work is thin on the ground at present so I'm glad of the extra cash.
