Hi guys any good and ££ I used one when I was training years and years ago thinking of getting one thoughts pls

The only concern I have is how much it would thin the wall of the pipe. Especially as its not as thick as it used to be. Could be handy for coming away from old pipework.

Use mine very, very, rarely. Sometimes useful to connect end of pipe coming out of a wall so you don't have to solder inside the brickwork, but that doesn't happen very often. If you're thinking of the fancy expander ones, then if you don't anneal the tube it can split, and if you do anneal it you've got more cleaning to do.

I'm sure they told us at college you couldn't use them anymore as the thinned out section of pipe would no longer conform to a British standard or something like that.

They only let us use them in college to save on couplings while teaching us how to solder

handy if you have an old/odd sized cold main or similar that needs coupling up. Cant be used on gas, best not used on new pipe as its alot thinner than "the good old days" (good for tat 🙂 )

We use them all the time when doing copper work.
Either water supply, gas or refrigeration piping.

I cannot tell you the last time I bought a copper coupling
( except for 1/4" copper )

Socket forming and swaging aren't the same thing, swaging forms an "olive" inside the pipe by inserting the tool which has a ball bearing which protrudes and forms the ring/olive, ( haha always remember to put the nut on first) socket forming is self explanatory

You learn something new every day. 🙂

I have used the terms interchangeably. Naughty Ray!
