whats the best way to get the pipes clear and get a solder on pipework and endfeed that have been drained down and may still have a bit of water in and wont take the sloder

you cant solder with water in the pipes use compression or push fit if you realy cant get rid of the water

I use a wet vacuum. Also helps to keep the place dry when cutting through a wet pipe.

compression fitting sounds like your best bet.

just for your interest, when you strength test a commercial gas line, you use water. you cant leave the water in the pipe for obvious reasons, to remove it, you use a vacum pump, reducing the atmospheric pressure in the pipe to a tiny level, at which the water boils and is vented off as steam.
never done it myself, its not worth it, the machines are too expensive.

dont knoe if your joking or not redsaw, but i have used a lump of bread on several occasions, whilst working on swimming pool repairs.

I am a bit of a cheap skate,I have an little pump fitting that fits on my drill and I fit a lenght of u gauge tubing to it and thread it down the pipe
have not used bread for years, used to use it alot on the old lead pipework as it used to go up and down all over the place and you always got that irritating drip

trouble with using bread is the smell of toast would wreck my healthy eating campaign

never used bread but have heard of it done. quick one ever had a leg of water on a pipe up to a rad, drain off not far away little to high to get all the water out thought "I'll just blow it out" water exits out of one rad in living room out of the bleed n just misses the sofa?
Lucky it was a wood floor!

Hi all
this is a problem that I have found easy to sort out, instead of using the ordinary propane bottles on my gas torch I use MAPP gas the yellow tins, fire it up to volcano heat and nine times out of ten it will hold the water back whilst soldering, just dont get to close to an open end whilst doing this as the steam will take yer beard off, as I have found. Before everyone moans, you obviosly cant do this if there is a lot of water in the pipe, but I know where yer coming from pauls.
and dont bother mentioning health and safety to me because if its not dangerous i,m not going to do it.

i have one of those piper-alpha oil rigs in my van, havnt used it for over a year as the fire brigade now refuse to come out to any-more of my jobs.
so i carry sarnies instead.
