Spluttering tap and a knock when turning off

We've recently fitted a new bathroom shower, taps and bath. The cold tap on the bathroom basin splutters and bangs badly if it isn't opened quite far. The other taps are fine apart from when they are turned off there is a bang. Not a load of knocks just one bang (not too loud but noticeable).

Any ideas what's causing this? It was all fine until we fitted the new stuff. I've tried turning the mains pressure down a bit which seemed to help for a short while but now it's back to how it was.

Cheers,
Mungo

the banging is water hammer and the spluttering sounds like there is air in the pipes. turn the main stopcock down again until the banging stops open the basin tap up and let the air out and see if that helps. you might get wet so have a towel handy.

does sound like you have an air lock causing the spluttering as steve said close your stopcock a bit and open the tap this should sort your airlock

Thanks for the advice. I'll give that a try. Seems to be getting a bit worse each week. Especially if I turn a tap off quickly. If I shut it off very slowly then there's no bang.
