Strange Leak?

Once again I come to the source of all knowledge, Installed a new shower enclosure complete a couple of months ago... customer wanted a new one as previous one was seriously old and caused a leak directly below the shower room into their living room running down the wall. Now she says the leak has returned (10cm to the right of old one)... I fitted an 800 x 1000 tray with Turbo Flow 90mm waste, all checked fullly for leaks as always during install. Clients Husband says when he showers (for 5 mins) no leak.... however when the wife showers (20mins) it leaks? My 1st thoughts were either connections to turbo flow waste have bad seal somewhere or, the old waste pipe has a leak (running under the floor which i didnt touch) On arriving to check it all i ran the shower for 10 mins and not a single leak, she then explained that when taking a long shower the water starts to fill up the tray( but not over the edge) and thats when the leak starts. My thoughts were there is a build up of "crap" somewhere along the old waste that takes a while for the water to build up back on itself thefor coming back up into the tray, is it possible the bottom rubber seal of the TurboFlow waste hasnt sealed properly and as the water rises back up its forcing its way out? Or can you guys shed any more light on what the problem could be? I tested all seals around the enclosure itself and all ok. Asking the question as any underfloor work will involve alot of work as the tray is built into the floor 🙁

I had headache job similar, and at the end I found that enclosure next to the wall was badly installed by somebody and near the bottom the glass probably squashed the rubber seal in the frame. Was so happy to discover this, but it might be something else, however draining wasn't best as well so was suspecting leak on the waste pipe. Maybe you could try to spray the water in certain spots and observe under the tray if you spot something. Water could be traveling and then dripping in different place, which was my case. Good luck anyway, hope you sort it out quickly 🙂

Thanks, ive held the spray in all areas of the enclosure and no leaks... it only happens when the tray starts to fill up with water, buggin the hell outta me!

Any chance that there is a hairline crack in the tray. I had one once, it took an age to find it, luckily this one was on a riser kit so I spent half an hour lying on my side looking at the underside of the tray with a torch. Eventually the first drip appeared - a relief !

a lot of waste pipe joints leak if filled with water as they are designed to take away flowing water my first thought would be to make sure the waste is clear to run away
personally i find the modern trap that is tightened from above to be a reliable bit of kit providing its not been covered in silicon which i find makes the washer twist and squeeze/slide out
