I was wondering if any you guys can answer this . . .

I pass jobs on to other tradesmen all the time and I figured that i may as well try and do this more pro-actively and make some money out of it.

However I have not do so far as I do not want to 'sub contract' work out officially . . . .

I want to be able to pass the whole job (and thus responsibility) on to another tradesmen, but also still make a legal 'bung' on it!

It seems to be a sticky area to me where you can be effectively employing those who you 'sub contract' to.

Does anyone else out there do this?

Ta!

Not generally as the tax thing is a nightmare see the HMRC site ( you effectively have to withhold their tax). We pass a lot on and then it does come back to us when they can't do other work. With margins as they are a decent uplift from a job via subbies would price you with the big boys. If your name is on the invoice the buck stops with you so apart from a commission invoice there are few other routes.

if you ask the other trades to bung a butty on the price of a job you refer, they invoice customer for full amount. they give you the agreed bung, you give them an invoice for 'labour' you disclose this as income and everything is balanced.

thats what most guys round here do anyway

Or you could just sell them the lead for the job for a set amount, there are plenty who do this on the Internet.

I think the suggestions are about right . . . .

I cannot become a 'contractor' and employ sub contractors officially, so maybe a 'consultation fee' could be charged (a percentage in some cases)

Thanks guys (its nice when people actually bother to thank you innit?!?!)
