At the risk of facing Croppi's wrath,

Yes thermal cameras are useful for finding leaks in UFH basically they guide you based on the temperature difference in the slab, also handy for showing cold spots in radiators etc.

While they have come down in price it is important you know how to use them, there are courses in thermography where last time I looked you can qualify at level 1, 2, or 3.

The reason I didn't buy one was the courses are / were fairly in-depth, a lot of studying required, equipment expensive and it was cheaper to hire in Gent who is fairly local to me.

Only reason I ask is I have a job with a leak under laminate and screed, wondering if it'd help if I hired one, thanks for all the wonderful informative answers weasels.... Now.. Back to my beer.

no kay jay i didnt wheres that.
@whn1 use a laser thermometer there cheaper, just find the hottest bit of floor and dig up
works all the time

Colleague used a thermal camera to trace the heating circuit in a large country house a few years back. Pipes of course need to be hot. For the cold pipes you have disconnect from the mains and temporarily connect to the hot water supply and flow for them to show up.
