I went to a boiler 3-4 weeks ago that had lost its pressure. Found it was discharging out of the pressure relief valve and expansion vessel was flat. So drained and pumped vessel up, fill system and notice water coming out of prv pipe. Take prv out which is full of crud and put new one in. Check vessel and refil. Yesterday I get a call saying the pressure had gone again. I go back and water is coming out of the vessel. So it had split. Should I have changed the vessel the same time I changed the prv? It all seemed fine to me at the time. And do I just charge price of vessel and no labour or both?
Thanks fellers

Up to really depends on the customer? how good are there? how much work do you do for them?
Got the same problem went beginning of the week and swapped AAV's and an air separator in a boiler as the customer complained she was topping it up rather more often than she was, didn't even look at the PRV as when I took the cover of the pump AAV was slimy and wet so ordered them up under warranty. all fitted customer happy. call 2 days later boiler locked out on low pressure, pop back top it up have a look round, put it down to a bit of air from the drain down, 2 days later locked out again, so now checked and ordered PRV, so got to go back!!
Have already left invoice on the second visit!! will probably swap PRV and charge for the bits this time round, but she is a very good customer, understand when I'm a bit later, parts haven't arrived yet, or just to late in the day to think about it, If I don't leave with a cheque in my hand I get it by return post with out any quibble, often with a £5 "for the kids" usually turns into beer though:17:! and she has lived in the village for decade so knows everyone and I have got a lot of work of the back of it.
so for me I'm happy to let it slide, but I have equally had the reverse when I tend to think:mad2: I didn't want to do it in the first place so they get charged for everything!!

Sorry bit of a ramble!!

It's a tricky one. I don't believe I was at fault though. Yes they are a good customer. I remember a guy on here who actually changed the expansion vessel when ever he had a prv discharge I think

Probably just a bad luck. I would charge for part and labour however in this case, but as mentioned, depends on customer. Maybe could fit it for free.

I wouldn't change unless boiler had been recharged more than once. It's an expensive just Incase for custard do you keep all mi expansion on van? I try fit external ones as much better prices and easier . Some boilers (combi) normally u just have to bite bullet and fit it.

if a prv is passing i always check the exp vessel via the schraider valve to make sure no water is expelled, and also the loop fill if connected, then advise customer if a revisit is needed to replace affected parts, had this on a ecotec pro i installed less than 11mths ago, turns out they had disconnected a rad and when re fitted topped up system but left the loop fill open, prv peeing out, ordered new prv and told them it was not covered under warranty due to negligence.

same here re pressure vessel and replace prv and explain if that does not cure then new vessel will be needed .some weep air from the schreader valve I have cured with new valve or just screw ext piece onto it
