I just found a patch of water below the toilet cistern. I haven't done anything yet but it appears to be the inlet pipe joint that's the problem. I was thinking take the toilet lid off and tighten the fittings, maybe get new washers if needed. I thought I'd check on here before I do anything to be on the safe side. Thanks.

The water level in the cistern shouldn't be anywhere near the float valve inlet so, I suggest you replace the 15mm fibre washer in the bent tap adapter that's connected to the float valve.

Is the washer on the outside? Do I need to take the lid off and have a look inside? Or to tighten/loosen the fitting/s?

I took off the lid and he small plastic pipe which refills the cistern is dribbling water after the refill stops. Also when the cistern refills I think water may be spurting a bit from where the joint is. Neither seems normal so do I have to deal with these fittings as well as the outside one?

Ok, any chance of a picture of the inside of the cistern.

Next. Replace the fibre washer inside the bent 15mm coupling the attaches to the float valve inlet.

You may also have to replace the entire float valve going by what you've described.

Can I ask the plumbing counter to provide the correct washer? Or do I need to take apart the fitting so I can show them? Do I then see if that works, and if not then see about replacing the float valve? Thanks fo helping.

I would suggest that you take the picture of the float valve to Wolseley and ask for a replacement diaphragm washer for it and also some 15mm fibre washers.

Once those have been replaced you'll need to adjust the water level in the cistern to the correct height. There should be a line on the rear of the inside of the cistern.

Let us know how you get on.

OK, thanks. One more please: how do I adjust the water level?

The white screw at the front of the valve, if you turn it in towards the valve (clockwise) it will lower the water level (after a flush) the other way will raise it.
OK, thanks again. I should probably see if I can do that for now then get the washers tomorrow.
