Hello I fitted a chrome towel radiator yesterday (1800x600)

i stupidly used the two top connections for flow and return. The house is a bungalow so the pipes come from the roofspace and drop to below.

As soon as I turned the water on I knew the radiator wouldn't heat as the heat is taking the quickest route out.

Is it possible to get a towel radiator that the top connections can be used or do I have to drop one of the pipes to below to complete the circuit?

Thanks in advance

Ryan

Nope needs doing properly. Repipe in chrome pipe work to bottom connection

i would suggest you drop them both to the bottom tbh. if you go top and bottom you will need the flow on the top for it to work (no saying it will work that well?). it will look strange aswell.

Blanked the 2 bottom connections and fitted 2 manual air vents in the roofspace.

Head was fried last night. Time to get the kengo out lol

Turned into a big job by the sound of it mate, let's see some before and after pictures.

It can be done.
I corrected one fitted by someone else.

You need a piece of 15mm tube the full height of the rad, pushed into the end of the valve on the flow long enough so it's jammed tight against the plug at the bottom.

Cut / file a couple of slots near the bottom of the pipe, don't go more than a third of the way thro or it will crush when you trap it.

This will direct the flow to the bottom of the rad, the same as is done with dual microbore valves.

See what your saying but a dodge if you ask me. Do it rift Repipe

Surely to go to that much effort it would pay to plumb then in to the bottom of the towel radiator from an aesthetic view, practicality & also function of the rad itself as its a vertical rad.

This method would best be suited to a horizontal radiator if piped this way?

I liked the ingenuity of it!

Lack of judgement on my behalf. Costly mistake but ill not make it again lol.

I wish people wouldnt call these things Radiators, they're towel warmers, they wont heat a bathroom properly. Then you get customers complaining there bathrooms are cold.

My bad! Slip of the tongue!

Must remember ;

Towel warmers Towel warmers Towel warmers
Towel warmers Towel warmers Towel warmers
Towel warmers Towel warmers Towel warmers

Slap on the wrist taken & lines completed!

Live and learn bud good on you for being willing to sort it. Sadly not everyone would of.

If the rest of the house is drop fed, I would assume there is trunking? If so could you run it down the wall ( in a corner/door frame ) outside that room in trunking along skirting level and bring it back in low level and up to the rads? Just a thought

I always like my pipework to come out of the wall when installing a towel 'warmer'. Bit of extra effort but worth it in the end.

Yes in chrome , straight into some danfoss RAS-D2 chrome 90 degree valves and then fit those chrome collars on the pipe where it exits the wall! looks well good!!!!

As has been said before yes it can be done but here is the way i do it which is different.

Take your valve tail and file the chrome off the inside of the thread end and tin it.
Take a bit 15mm pipe the height (within an inch or 2) of the rail and tin the end.
Depending on your valve tail you may need to knock the tail onto the pipe but it will go on at least 5-10mm or so.
Heat the tail and the tinned ends will fuse together.
Screw your tail in and make sure that one is the return.

Certainly can be done. Seen it (similar to Tamz way of doing it) and it worked perfectly fine.

Don't bother with TRVS on towel warmers. They serve no purpose and they look daft.

Cheers for all the replys lads. Ended up taking the flow tail off and soldering a length of copper onto the end of it. Solved the problem without having to do a lot of extra work. Worked a charm

Every day is a school day!

Thanks again

Well done, just it is meant to be the return otherwise you lift the return temperature to flow temperature.
