turning off hot water

hi everyone i was wondering if you could help.

I am changing my hot water tap as it is a wreck but i cant turn off the hot water. I have turned the stop tap off under my sink and also one in the basement yet water still comes out of the hot water tap.

What should i try next.

Either a gate valve turn clockwise to shut water off to the cylinder or sometimes these can break .
Just turn off the cold stoptap and drain the header tank through the hot tap ...thats it. takes around ten minutes to drain depending on how big your tank is.

Can take ages turn on all your hot taps , make sure cold is definately off , if it is a gravity system it will take a long time dribbling too. Try your red gate valve which feeds your cylinder at the bottom from the header tank . You can also try isolating your header tank through the isolating valve just before the inlet.

i cant turn the red valve feeding the cylinder. it stuck solid. Cold is definately turned off and all hot taps are running. My actual tank is pretty much inaccessible so cant get to much of it.

job done, just a smalll trickle now. thanks so much for your help

changed hot taps and new rad before without turning of supply, got it down to about 6 seconds now with a loss of about 3 litres have plenty of towels helps.
i dont do it all the time and depends on environment but £5 a minuite feels good.

I've done a few "live" fixes in my time and there's nothing quite like the buzz you get from cutting into a live supply. Does depend on the property though.

quite often change garden stop cocks live the trick is to wait till the pipe is below water before you remove and replace the stopcock that way it dont spray everywhere

Yup done it myself today ...put a pushfit stop end on as soon as you slice then hook up the flexi with a pushfit end on , simple 🙂

pretty much my method john, i use push fit iso, slightly opened so goes on easier.
steve - chicken, get ur self in a bathroom and try it.
