Bloody bast*** ffin bol**ks of a safety clutch on my 60 quid 5kg Titan sds failed as I was drilling a 40mm core. Drill spun, I let go of trigger and tried to let go as it kept spinning and hit me in the face!!!!

No damage done.....to me, luckily.

I was on a flat roof but was safely in the middle. Could have been brown bread if up a ladder.

Scary how heap shizen can kill you.

been there, hit a wall tie, got a black eye, but its happened with expensive and cheap sds drills, a high speed core drill hasnt ever done this to me. sds drills dont rotate fast enough to core properly realy and should be used with diamond cores, you need a proper core drill

i got pulled off a ladder by a cheap Sparky core drill when the clutch failed. the only thing to cushion my fall was an steel oil tank !!!! I need to buy myself one desperately, I can't keep pinching other guys drills and putting jobs back because of it ! worth the investment sir! actually, I think this is karma for calling me a ***** 😉

Ha ha your probably right.

The funny this is that there was a sparky on site and we were talking core drills. I was saying that my drill was fine for now but it didn't go fast enough and kept cutting out way too much.i just wished it would keep going and not cut out so quick. ..........careful what you wish for gents!!

A half decent drill will run/drill for ever with a sharp drill bit/core cutter.

Absolute pain in the arse, but you cant cut a nice hole without a sharp ...

that dewalt looks too cheap to be that good?
Obviously can't vouch for long term reliability, but in terms of a tool to use, it did the job splendidly. Clutch kicked in when it should of, and it tore through a 18 inch wall even with a fairly old and worn core. I was impressed. Very comfortable to use too.

You knob....... We had a thread a month or so ago and I posted that the same sheet drill threw me off the ladder and opened my eye up.....what's the point of posting if nobody learns from it................ Hope you're ok big boy.

I havnt the money to be choosey. Had it replaced under warranty. Hopefully wont be using it for too long until I can afford something better. I just won't be using it in any uncompromising positions.

Jesus I'm writing this thinking, no kyle you won't be coring with it at all.

Ok advice needed pronto about the cheapest SAFE core drill I can get. Think the credit card will be back out (oh dear). But I suppose its better safe than sorry.

What can I say ......YOU WERE RIGHT.....I hate saying that!!

I'd rather loan from a bank than a friend. Id rather be in the poo with the bank man than owe money to a friend. It's never good. It's like tools. I don't lend and I don't borrow.

I don't want your stuff to break if I'm using it and ill go mad if you break my stuff.

every core I do I add a little charge. smaller ones a fiver and a tenner for 5 inch cores. pays for the wear and tear of your cores ( or towards your new core drill)

It does not matter what it costs. Even a trivial injury like a sprained wrist could cost you a weeks money. A weeks money is a decent drill and set of cores. I would sell the replacement and put that away to pay for the hire of a proper core drill if needed for a job. That way you won't be tempted to use it.

Up until a few month back undoubtedly the best core drill for your money was the DDM2 at just under £300 but they have stopped selling it. I have a DDM2 and a 3. Both similar guns but the 3 is faster and £150 more expensive. I don't fancy the DDM1 at all.
Over the years i've had 2 Makita's 1 Dewalt 2 Ryobi Industrial's and a Hilti, none of them particularly cheap. They were all junk except the Hilti and are long since binned. At the end of the day if you just drill the odd hole every now and again your std sds will do the job. If you are coring every day the day a decent drill will pay for itself in time saved within 2 weeks.

Btw screw fix wouldn't be a place of choice for power tools. Search around on the net for something to suit your budget. There are lots of vgood online tool shops selling better gear.

I wouldn't have a clue where to start looking.
Any names of said online tool shops that are good

Happened today to mate, was drilling 30mm hole and caught void in brick, knackered door on boiler hit him in face and bounced him off the wall. Laughing my arse off but could see he was hurt. Split his mouth on inside . Thank titan for that!

Did you have a go of it then?
if that was at me i haven't got my hands on one yet. i'll think about it more when i'm home. i saw here with my sds trying to core through engineering block rather tempted to give up and order one for next day delivery !!!!

Are there any diamond drilling contractors near you?
If there is stop in one day you are passing and have a chat about hand held machines.
If you look at their gear they are all similar designs to the marchrist drill.
Type hand held diamond drilling rig into google and look on the images page. Most of the machines used professionally are similar design and they certainly don't use dewalts or makitas.
