Hi,
I was asked to fix a dripping tap, amongst other things, and thought, " 10 minute job, pop it out, fit a new washer, give it a clean up and job done."
No, the washer was knackered ok, mainly because the side of the cup that it sits in has had about 5mm checked out of it, allowing the washer to bulge out when compressed. The other, and main thing, is the size of the washer. The cup has an internal diameter of 5/16 ", or just less than 15mm, and none of the merchants in Glasgow has got anything even remotely similar. I've made one from a blank just now, but would like to get the real thing. The tap, a monobloc basin mixer, doesn't look very old, 20 years max at a guess.
Any solutions / good ideas would be much appreciated.
