I have an Ariston steel (not stainless) unvented hot water tank fitted to my central heating system. It has an electronic anti-corrosion unit fitted. Last April my house caught fire and the electricty to the tank was switched off. The fire didn't affect the tank but the electricity supply to the tank was switched off for 8 months while the house was refurbished. The tank wasn't drained for the whole period but the heating system was. The heating system was switched on at the end of November and the plumber only checked the boiler was operating correctly. When pressed he added a system inhibitor fluid to the heating header tank. It has been 16 months since the tank has been checked which is well over due. What I would like to know is how much damage has been done to the tank by corrosion and should it have been checked?
My contractor stated anti-corrosion had been added to the tank. (I don't know how as it is sealed). I would like to know if this is dangerous to health and is it legal? Would anti-corrosion affect the safety devices fitted to the tank?
