fairylights

Firstly, I am not a heating engineer but just a very annoyed female home owner, who feels ripped off somewhat. I moved into a property in November which has a Potterton Profile (cant find a model no.) with a mega flow system. After the first night spent in the house, I got up to have a lovely hot bath after a very long moving day, started to run the bath..alas no hot water? Heating pumping out nicely though. I was promised by a couple of friends who are heating engineers to pop in and have a look as thought faulty valve. Anyway, they never came around so fed up with using emersion heater, I called out a local engineer last week, who replaced the valve and problem sorted, or so i thought.

Two days passed and boiler kept locking out? No heating, but an abundance of hot water? Called engineer back, he said it was the thermostat...so fitted a new one of those. Within an hour of him leaving, heating had gone off again, called him back and he admitted he had knocked a wire off its connection when replacing the cover to the electrics box. Again, within an hour of him leaving, heating got stuck on! Everything turned off at the controls but rads getting hotter and hotter. Called him back again (getting seriously hacked off now!) 3rd time in one day. He said the heat sensor or something had got stuck, so hence boiler not switching off. Whilst he was here, i asked him about the pressure gauge and was the reading ok, he said the glass cover was faulty and was moving around giving false reading? Completely untrue, the valve cover and glass is as it should be and giving a correct reading.

So after having now paid out £400 for all of this so far, Tues this week, boiler starts making a weird creaking noise on and off, which was quite loud and a tad scarey but everything seemed to be working ok. Last night i kept being woken up by what i can describe as radiator pressure, like it was empty and trying to fill up? So at 3am, I go downstairs to find the boiler screeching like a banshee and so hot i couldnt touch the cover. I turned the controls to off in the hope it would cool down and go quiet. At 4 am, noise still just as bad and i am now so worried i actually thought it was going to blow up as it sounded like a kettle at full boil. I was so concerned that i actually considered calling the fire brigade to come and help! I bravely went into the boiler cupboard and switched it off at the main plug so i knew it couldnt come on. Peace at last, but still very concerned. I cant afford to get another engineer out as i literally have no money left. I dont work as on disability due to heart condition.
This morning i have checked the pressure gauge and it has dropped to 1/2 whereas it has been on 1 1/2 up until this problem last night.

Is this problem covered on work carried out by previous engineer as i know if i call 'him' out again he will charge me 70 per hour plus parts. I never had any of these problems prior to the work he carried out, all i needed was a simple valve changing, but that has opened up a can of worms.

First you need to ask if engineer who call`d has qualification to work on unvented system ! screeching could be fan or pump, do you live in hard water area ? this could account for kettleing noise ! First you need to give the 1st engineer the chance to put things right, he was the last person to work on system. up to him to put things right, Did you get the heating tested B4 you bought the house ??
What is your location could be someone on here is close by !:welcome2:

That was last January. This problem relates to a problem in a property moved into in November last year.

amazes me how people just pay anything without the job being done i have trouble getting paid for jobs ive done properly
