Hmmm, and it worked ok before?, go outside, turn down the supply to the shop that had complained of low pressure, see what happens.

take a reading of pressure to cylinder and flow rate ! I remember reading somewhere that if you heat water and there is not enough
room for expansion it creates what you mentioning as spiting !

I've read all the replies to this thread and I agree with the above. I don't understand how it was all ticking along quite nicely then the water board play with something then all of a sudden its up the creak......

Not that I distrust them at all but.......

Agree it sounds a bit fishy, but could be just coincidence and i can't get away from the fact that water pressure is brilliant and flow rate far exceeds what my weir cup will read, man at the water board reckoned it was way above the 20 litres/min recommended by the cylinder manufacturer, from what i can see iv'e no reason to doubt him.....interesting that a few people have now mentioned the expansion side of things, which i never considered, maybe the cylinder is the culprit after all...more investigation warranted for sure.
Don't you just love this job sometimes:banghead:

oh yes its a pig,i would look at the expansion issues first sounds like you have a right mare on your hands good luck post back with your findings

Yes thank god, although i don't think they will wear it dragging on, i'm two days in already with no solution in sight.
Without a happy conclusion i've a feeling things will get nasty.

are you on a day rate ?

Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree and be an old dog with a bone, but I'd still check out how the mouth rinsers are installed. It makes sense that if the air and water supplies are connected and were used when outside works occured then maybe the air pressure buggered the check valves when the water pressure was low and now when they use it it blows air into the system. And it may be a complete red herring. Of course if they are not connected as I'd assume that type of connection to mains pressure would be outlawed. Then I plead the defence of Manuel- "I kno nuttting 🙂)
Hope it turns out well for you.

Quick update on the job from hell...spent a third day today trying everything under the sun to sort the problem (won't bore you with the details, but believe me when i say i
don't want to see another flight of stairs in a hurry!) at about 3 o clock, with nothing resolved, and the chances of getting paid dwindling fast,:bigcry: i asked a different dentist, the same question
i had asked the first time i walked into the place.......and several times more during the job..... Are you sure the chairs are not connected to the mains water?.....This time i got a different answer
Yes he says, one side is sterilised bottled water, but the other side is mains fed, only mine won't work anymore... at this point he opens the tap, and what comes out...bloody compressed air!!!!

Whipped out a screwdriver and removed the plastic cover under the chair base, to reveal a 15mm feed coming out of the floor, once isolated it cured the problem straight away.:stooge_curly::stooge_curly::stooge_curly:

I'm guessing the following scenario, shop down the road complains of crap pressure, water board turn it up, blows a seal or diaphragm of some sort in the chair allowing compressed air
into the water side.

Morals of this story are...Never accept what the custard says as being gospel, they know nada....Always prove/disprove your theories by actually looking.....And never ever agree to help out a
mate, it always bites you on the arse:stooge_curly:

Thanks to everyone for your input, it's always nice to know that there is help out there when the chips are down, sometimes working for yourself can be a very lonely place.....

glad you have finally got it sorted must be a big relief, and thanks for the positive comments and feed back

Well done. So it was the dental unit after all. It's the only thing that made sense considering the before and after scenario you mentioned.

grats mate, this thread was a good read, i was thinking along the lines of maybe some back syphonage into the water main, or something like that, especially if there is another high water usage place down the road, but compressed air from a faulty chair 🙂)
