Can someone please explain why 'some' suppliers don't put VAT on quotations??

Been caught out myself in the past when invoices have come through the door and hear so many others getting caught out .

Why are quotations done without VAT?

Quite a few don't but it will be written on it vat to be added or something along those lines or the vat total will be at the bottom. Because they are vat registered companies they have to show the net cost before vat
If you are vat registered the vat is irrelevant. All you are interested in is the net cost as you are claiming the vat back.

We quote everything ex-Vat, because our experience is that if we don't, we lose business to competitors. As a trade supplier, the vast majority of our customers are VAT registered.

However, we do try hard to make it clear that our published price excludes VAT.
