5.5.2 Where a room or internal space also contains oil or solid fuel burning appliances, the air vent for the gas appliance shall be sized with due consideration being given to the rating of other appliances and their usage pattern at the same time as the gas appliance.
COMMENTARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON 5.5.2
Where two or more chimneys serve a common space, the draught of the stronger chimney can influence the pull of the weaker and cause spillage. The provision for ventilation for each appliance shall be made separately. e.g. if a gas appliance and a solid fuel appliance are located in the same room, one ventilation provision is required for the gas appliance and another for the solid fuel appliance.

It depends on a few things. Google solid fuel ventilation requirements and work it out to suit your requirements.

I have some course work notes on multi-appliance/multi-fuel ventilation. Hopefully they attach ok.

you would of thought i would of been trained to deal with this scenario on my ccn1
The CCN1 does not cover enough dealing directly with gas nevermind going in depth into solid fuel fires.

The basics are you treat the solid fuel fire/stove like a gas appliance of the equivalant input. If the input is unknown it should generally be taken as a vent free area of 100cm².

Stoves usually state an average heat output and this needs to be converted to give heat input, but the standard open fire is not as easy, as it depends on many variables such as size and type fuel used and even the moisture content of this fuel.

thanx for the notes, they really helped. i didn't know the formula for converting output to in. that also helps me for some of the really old gas appliances i come across stating only output.
