Hi there,

I've heard a lot about this Vichy VC97 Multimeter and it's incredible value. However, what I can't find is anyone who has actually used one on a 230V live AC circuit.

Has anyone out there used this multi-meter for such a job?

Thanks in advance

Mike 🙂

you old cheapskate John, I've got 2 as the first stopped working, bought another fm wickes, all of £19, and then found the first had a flat battery 🙂

Looks ok but personally would only ever use fluke multimeters had mine 15 years or so now and not given even a sniff of trouble.

Still got my old BG meter. Rubberised exterior and Works a treat but tbh no better than a 6 quid jobby i picked up

Surely, all mulimeters are tested to a standard, and rigorously so, otherwise we'd hear of everyday, serious lawsuits.
What's the main difference between a good cheap one and a good expensive one?
P.S. Please excuse my lack of knowledge.

Cheap ones are unresponsive. Less features and that's about it . £25 is enough for a basic one. Just need continuity , a/c d/c and insulated clamps. Don't use 1/4 of features on my fluke .

Usually a longer warranty, better quality components that last, long term reliability, more responsive/quicker to take a settled reading.
Depends what you use it for. If using once in blue moon to take a resistance reading then maybe a cheapy will do for you.
If using daily then need a bit more quality in my opinion. Fluke it is.

A cheap will usually have poor quality leads that are infused and do not comply with gs38. Given that your testing live circuits, the bits you holding in both hands should be good quality.

Go with fluke me self. Only time it let me down, I'd left it behind. Returned to site to collect, and customer had put it in pocket. Denied it. He liked Fluke too. Had to buy a new 1. I here Amprobe are pretty good for a cheaper type too

Fluke all the way for me aswell. I use a 116 multimeter , the digital T150 continuity meter and an ideal clamp meter. The clamp meter i got sent from america because i subscribe to a you tube channel Ideal industries . Ron who hosts channel often sends out loads of free electrical test equiptment . Its cool.
