volt free thermostat, what cable

What is the correct cable for connecting a volt free thermostat to a combi boiler? The cable needs( to either go from the boiler upstairs, under under the floor and back down the hall. Refurb in progress so as easy to wire, as to use RF.

Stat is battery (mains independant) - two wire.

What cable should I be using, I am thinking about 1mm flex. Should I use something else?

that should be fine , dont forget though if anything goes wrong with cable youll have to start tracing

0.75mm will surfice, its only a signal cable. Have known sparks to use BT cable and twist 2 cores together, but I'm not to sure on that! :hump:

0.75 heat resistant cable into the boiler but you can use normal 1 mm to the stat

You cannot use flex. 1mm T&E cable would be suitable or 1mm triple & E
if you are going to use a thermostat with anticipator.

can you explain why 3 core heat resistant flex could not be used?

its low voltage, no anticipator, tho your right if it was 230v, then heat resistant into boiler 🙂

Flex cannot be used as fixed wiring as far as I know.

Yes you could do that. I know of no regulation to say must be heat resistant flex only may go to
boiler controls but there may be others that can point you to that regulation.
I have always put cable direct to thermostat teminals on combi boilers.
I will await correction and will mend my ways when I find this regulation.
