some of the drives I go up are 3 miles long, cant see the need for big engine on them myself as the corners are too sharp 🙂

3 miles long trips can only clog egr valves and destroy engine ! Modern cars vans are designed to be driven on a regular base of trips of min 50km

My little T26 is coming up 6 yr old and only 30k on the clock, engines clean as whistle, mainly coz of hills and using the gears to get there. the other essential maintenance item is to do an annual oil change, no matter what the manufacturer says, oil gets ****ty and thats what screws an engine

Must agree LP, although apparently the new T5s have sensors that detect the quality of the oil, would like to know how really. I really don't like the idea of engine oil being in for 20k like the long life servicing suggests. But manufacturer knows best I suppose.

Mines coming up a year old so will be going in for a service at 18k.

The biggest problems seems to be clutch or gearbox failure on the vw's, rather than engine failure though!
