What are you doing for nationbal gas safety week 10th - 16th September.

I read the piece about it in the gas engineer mag and thought it could be a way of drumming up a bit more business. I thought it would be nice to try and set up something nice and public for a day promoting gas safety with the freebies from gas safe and at the same time promoting myself. Next decision is where to set up. The mag says that B&Q are running events at several of their larger stores so I thought I'd see if the local store are doing anything. The local store aren't involved with the nationwide campaign but are very interested in working with me on having a gas safety awareness day on the Wednesday of the week. If it comes off I'll lose a days work but get a lot of really good publicity. I'm looking at doing a free drawer on the day with B&Q providing some CO alarms and me doing a free domestic gas safety inspection for the winner.

If it all goes a flop on the day at least I'll have a pile of Gas Safe mugs and pens but I'll push it to the local press and radio stations and see what interest I can drum up. Hopefully B&Q head office will give some support as well as they are involved with the national campaign.

Fa safe are giving out promotional material for the day. Just need to register with them and let then know the numbers you are expecting.

Don't forget lots of business cards, leaflets and stickers if you have some to spare, also leave some with B&Q, maybe even pop in every week to buy a drill bit while at the same time asking the manager but more important the gents on the floor who advise the customers about plumbing, most of them are retired tradesmen and a brilliant source of business.

They get a lot of people through those stores, all you need are a few crumbs from the rich mans table to have a very nice Christmas.

Spoke to the manager today and we're on for the 12th September. Expected footfall through the doors on a Wednesday is 6000. Gas safe are sending me a 1000 leaflets plus posters and some other marketing stuff. They've also asked me for some pictures of the day. I'll be putting out a press release to the local press before the event and also write up some ballcocks after the event to see if we can sneak it in as a bit of news i.e. "Gas Safety Awareness day a big success, 6000 people saved from near death experience with CO poisoning."

They send the stuff out a couple of weeks before apparently. I spoke to them on the phone rather than online or using the form because i was requesting a lot of stuff.
