What do I need to fit an outside tap?

View the thread, titled "What do I need to fit an outside tap?" which is posted in UK Plumbers Forums on UK Plumbers Forums.

We have an outside tap that is about 50 years old and has just literally exploded. (Fortunately, I had already fitted an isolation valve when we moved in.)

I am going to have to saw the tap off. This will leave too little copper pipe poking through the wall to fit a new tap. So I am going to have to put a new piece of copper through the wall and use a normal soldered joint onto the existing cold-water supply inside the house. All good so far.

The old tap did not have a backing plate to secure it to the wall, which I don't like. Screwfix do a backing plate that is pre-fitted with a length of 15mm copper pipe, which looks ideal (item 56415).

My question is: what else do I need (preferably from Screwfix)?

I apologise if my question seems dumb but trying to get advice on this in a busy Screwfix on a Saturday morning is not a task I relish.

Kind wishes - Patrick
