Hi Friends

Changed a pair of flexi connectors for a mono block basin tap yesterday, all easy, got taps off etc. etc, all said in and out in 45 mins (although I quoted Saturday so 2nd visit for an hours work £35 - yes, we've had the discussion about me being too cheap, mis-quoted lesson learned!)

Anyway, yesterday checked for leaks for 5 mins, ran taps, checked fittings, dry as a bone. I was pleased.

Chap calls me, hose is leaking! How to you know I said, well he said, he was just looking (under the basin!!!????) and he put his hand under to feel the flexi pipe (whatever floats his boat) and he said it started to leak.

mmmmm.. I said, you saw me check for at least 5 mins, you checked, all was OK and now you tell me its leaking after you've fiddled with it??! OK, I can come back but it's not free, min 1 hour labour, OK he says.

Got there at 1530hrs, fathers there, 70 odd years old, knows all about plumbing!

Took tap off, un-did flexi connectors and put together again, checked all and no leaks, father checked, son checked, dry as a bone.

He offers me £10!!! I look at him, he's 6ft I am 5'4"!!

I say no, its an hour labour, I don't charge half hours before the first hour, ah he says but i thought... well I told you mate its an hours labour. but I want a new tap fitted, OK I say, I can do that in an hour, so £35! Will you take £20, no I won't, will you fix my computer for a tenner? No he says, I charge £45 per hour, there you go I say.

Anyway, just ****ed me off.

Was I wrong to charge him again today?

Home now and ready for football.

Regards Friends.

I would have wiped flexis down with tissue got a torch and asked him show me where the leak is before starting to take apart my work. It sounds like that your a grafter and your trying to build up a good rep. He was wasting your time but I dont think he was doing it intentionally. It would have added to your rep imho if you gently pointed out that there was nothing wrong with your work and there was no leak. Usually there would be a charge for a second call out but you always take care of your customers (blah blah) and hope that you will give us a call or recommend me to your friends. Small jobs lead to big jobs

I would have said its condensation keep on eye on it for a day, if it's still leaking its your fault after all you fitted its free to fix every time.
