I used to work with a bloke we called "1/2 inch mil" cause he was useless with measurements

I don't understand what you are getting at jts? It is because I am proud to be British that I want the next generation to use the units that we agreed to use & that are on the whole a lot easier.

OK there has to be a transition I agree but when I had apprentices still wanting to measure things inches you have to draw the line.

Next you will be telling me you want to go back to using pound shilling & pence or perhaps you would prefer the groat?

Cant see a problem with people still wanting to use Feet/inches, Most tapes still have both, as been pointed out on here only get pizza's in inches, how meny on here still use old style measurements, ? footwear seems to use old size, would I like to see £.s.d back ? why not ! money seemed to be worth more ! Everything changes but not always for the better, Maybe start a new Thread on what people would like to see revived ,

Being a child of the change over I had to learn both at the same time, all I`ll say is 10 -1 is easier than 12-1.

5/16 being a gnats do da under under 8mm.

Sorry mate. "A knats (gnats?) do da" is the old imperial measurement for "a very small amount".

Its all micro-meters now.

That very small amount was the difference between pass and failure in the aero world, very easy to use the wrong size tapping drill and meant the component was scrapped.
