We had the following system fitted in our kitchen in 1996....

Wall-mounted Ariston DIA system 27 RFFI above an Ariston (MTS?) 200L super bravo water heater unvented water storage cylinder

I'm not sure whether it's a combi plus unvented cylinder or just boiler plus cylinder. It works well and runs the CH plus supplies instant hot water everywhere including the loft shower. We have had quotes to have the kitchen redesigned and a couple of these have included replacing all of the above with a "smaller, more efficient" combi. What we have at present works and has been reliable over the years if a little on the big side. does it really need to replaced? Could we perhaps just have the boiler replaced and keep the cylinder where it is?

The system is a good design, the brand of the appliance isnt my first choice. I wouldn't be fitting a combi as the hot water output would be inferior to the system you have. You could install an ideal logic plus system boiler, efficient, compact and reliable. Rear or top entry flue and fits comfortably into a Wall unit. Possibly easier to relocate cylinder and upgrade if required. But if system working why not save the pennies go on holls and fix it when broken? Sounds like a bit of Everest up selling? Ask a gas installer to service boiler ? When servicing ask if any issues ...... If he says no, it's ok. If you have more than two bathrooms which may be used at same time then a combi probably isn't the right choice .
