what sort of course should i do to become a plumber??????

Seems as though this guy isn't really that interested in plumbing, but rather has heard that plumbers earn a fortune so fancies an easy route to making a good wage. The fact is, in any career to make 50k a year takes a lot of knowledge, hard work and dedication. You can't just do a 2 month half hearted course and suddenly become a skilled professional earning 50k a year. If it was that easy wouldn't everyone be doing the same and earning 50k year? People would laugh at other professions claiming you could be trained up in a matter of months. Yet for some reason, many people think you can become a plumber earning mega bucks just by handing over a couple of grand to a training centre and doing the 6 week course.

I don't want to give it the large one, but it is possible to earn £50K a year in this game. You need to be dedicated to it though. Work a lot of hours, put up with a lot of crap and take the rough with the smooth (in spades).

It doesn't happen over night though. Takes years to build up to it.

Fast track training course providers are the parasites of this industry. Why is it that plumbing, electrical and other highly skilled trades that take years to learn are targeted?

And would those office type workers who've sat at a desk all their career and consider doing a plumbing course because their bored, please stick to your own career and leave ours alone.

I don't feel threatened by the fast tracker - ex accountant come plumber....they're normally no good at their job. They can talk a good job but when push comes to shove they don't know their backside from their elbow.

They mess stuff up and soon go back to their office.

I agree that these training centres making promises of high earnings to new plumbers should be shut down. Its ridiculous.

Fast track plumbers should undergo a government backed probation scheme where they are vetted after completing their courses for at least two years before becoming fully qualified. There are no watchdogs in our industry and it's going to pot.

I agree that I dont feel threatened but when they talk a good job they get that job and the customers lose faith in all plumbers so when you have to go and put it right they moan like hell because of the price.

Went to 1 where the so called plumber re-piped the flow and return manifolds on a microbore system but put them all into 1 manifold and removed the 3 port head because the heating wouldnt work charged them a fortune and messed it up. I went out because 1 of the lads I work with new them and all I got was grief from start to finish (Probably because of rogue traders and other programmes were all the same)

Be careful what you wish for. Didnt CORGI want to have a mandatory plumbing side. If Gas safe or somebody else did that it would cost more for proper plumbers and the cowboys would get more work.

I started an apprenticeship when I was 15 i'm now knocking on 28 and still learning now. How these applications think they can exercise you up in 2 a few several weeks is amazing.
