What to do and who to contact next?

Hi,

Could someone please have a look at the attached photos and give me their opinion on what they think is happening and what I should do next.

I called a plumber who said to have a closer look at the toilet overflow to make sure it’s not that.
Also ask United utilities to inspect if you have a leak if the water main enters your property around there.

Photos are the outside of a downstairs bathroom and toilet.

Hard to tell, but United Utilities won’t be much help as it’s not their responsibility. Maybe seek help from a different plumber who will investigate properly?

Possibly cracked clay soil pipe underground. Get a camera down there

Have you checked for water leaks?

To do this, make sure no water is being consumed inside the house (no taps dripping, no tanks filling, etc.) and then take two water meter readings half an hour apart.

OK so managed to take some water meter readings today.
It would appear I'm using approx 1.5 litres every 2.5 hours - that's with no water consumption inside the house.
I have been able to confirm this by logging into my UU account - I've added a photo - looks like the consumption went up aound July last year?

I phoned united Utilites and to say they were beyond useless is being kind.

So, I have two lead main water pipes both with stop cocks within the property.
One is in the kitchen - away from this problem and the other is located in the bathroom near the adjacent outside wall.
I have attached a photo of the one in the bathroom.

Is it now looking possible that the lead main water pipe has been breached?

If you’re not using it in the house, and if the meter is external, then I’d say you have an underground leak/burst. Still your responsibility too.

If you're replacing a lead supply pipe (recommended if you have one) they waive some charges. Also, you should be able to claim a rebate for the wasted water.
