What type of immersion heater is this?

Until you are sure that it has a thermostat providing temperature control DO NOT USE the immersion heater that looks like a standard copper cylinder, if the water boils you will know all about it and it could very well kill you or yours !!!

What is the immersion installed in ?

As there is no thermostat pocket in that element head where is the stat located?

Its in a DHW copper cylinder and has been there since the house was built in 1970s. Its a big estate and I guess all the houses will have had the same. I'm only using it as an emergency for a few days til my c/h pump is fixed.

I realise it doesn't have an adjustable thermostat but curious to know if it has a safety cut off or fixed stat given its age and BS3456. From the photo it looks as tho the live passes thro some kind of terminal before going to the element so I'm assuming that it has some kind of fixed stat (75oC?) or safety cut off (95oC?)

I would not assume anything to me it still sounds like it does not have temperature control, let along a high limit cut out. The wiring looks like the stat connection has simple been bypassed.

You are taking a great risk even if you are only using it as a temporary heat source.
