Hi, The regs are quite clear when a boiler and gas meter become commercial. But what about cookers? I can't see anything and obviuosly need to know when my domestic qual doesn't cover me!

Cheers

i was told in college , commercial property even if it has a normal free standing cooker 12kw and combi with 24kw all on g4 meter is a job for a non domestic ticket holder

My head tells me when it's in a commercial premiss, would that be wrong? Is it not the building it is situated that classifies the approach we make? Not sure by-the-way as I've not got the tickets nor want to work on them dirty greasy minging things!!! 🙂

Its a smallish B&B so could be smaller than a large house!I'm going tomorrow to have a look to see whats involved.

Boiler is 41Kw so classed as domestic.
Meter pipework supposed to be 22/28mm - will confirm along with meter size
I believe there is a range style cooker - but lots of domestic 'trendy' ones are chrome these days - so will check once know details
I believe there is a grill os some sorts - again will check.

Its a bit worrying we all have different ideas! I might have to make the dreaded call to gas safe to check!

Thanks for the responses.

CEN 1 is <70kw net input so how would less than that be commercial?
Got the MI's from 1977! They don't say domestic or commercial!

Cheers Simon - you're not wrong! So now I'm more confused! What makes a 30kw boiler commercial! Obviously MI's override everything else, but if the MI's don't say either way not sure.

The boiler is an ideal e type CF 105N.

No. Because the above boiler. Installed in a domestic property is still commercial. It's some thing to do with the design of the boiler

aint nowt to do with the premises.

b&b establishment is commercial but appliances are not.

i always thought it to be <70kw, <u6 0.035ft or not classed as catering equipment?.
my sister has an 8 ring commercial stove, dont stop the bg covering it?.

domestic is up to 70kw appliance, or 35mm pipework as long as the iv is less than 0.035m3, however the appliance category decided by the manufacturer, decides what the instal is. a cooker installed in a domestic area within commercial premises, is classed as domestic.

You could try ringing Gas Safe, but that would require Gas Safe giving a straight answer and that would be a first in my experience!

I've got my commercial catering as I have 2 customers with domestic model cookers in commercial premises but they are on yellow cater flexes so that drew the line for me.

Go off what the manufacturers say and the pipework/connection to it. In my cases I didn't need tpcp1a or icpn1 as they are only on 15 and 22mm pipe, domestic models but on catering connections. As long as there is an isolaton valve to the appliance and test point then you can fit it with your commercial catering changeover and comcat1. I am also doing my tpcp1a and icpn1 soon as I have another job in a pub to run 2 inch steel.

Of course if the installation volume is over 0.035 cubic meters, 35mm pipe or bigger than a u16 then you can't work on that pipework or do a tightness test at the meter without your commercial testing and purging quals.

I think gas safe need to clear this up, cos from what some of you guys are saying, if I fit a main water heater in a sandwich shop with a U6 meter, that's considered commercial!

If you fit a Worcester 28i junior and 22mm pipe for 6m on a u6 in a commercial kitchen. Your work is classed as domestic

Same as if you were working in a house fitting a boiler and you had to relight a fire after fitting boiler. But you haven't got htr1.

It's still within your scope
