I have a customer who is having issues with the above boiler. Apparently it is dropping out on hot water demand and then wont relight for about 5-10 minutes, she says there is a constant noise but no ignition so guessing the fan and pump are running? The fan and aps seem ok from what I saw. If you turn the power off and back on it will fire up straight away, so I am told. I have been infront of the boiler for about 2 hours over two visits and not seen it at fault so is difficult to test anything. Anyone had a similar fault with this boiler?

If it has all works okay otherwise I'd be looking at the aps sticking? Also check the aps tubes from the venturi are intact, even check the aps diff across the venturi? I have no idea what pressure it should be but it can sometimes be found on the aps! This boiler will hang in fan on or pump only on, depending on the position of the aps and boiler demand!

Also I forgot to say, the customer said that banging the lower grey panel on the front of the boiler will make I fire up. Which was making me think a sticking relay on the board? I really want to see the fault first hand, but so far I haven't been that lucky.

Check the multi pin (20?) connector on the bottom right, give it a clean out and refit.

I had a problem similar before and it was this connector although I'm sure it was going to lock out.

If you need a board and want one chep, I've got one in my store!

I know they did have PCB issues on these, i remember pooping my pants as the fan stopped and the flames started licking round the combustion chamber cover leaving me flapping for the power switch on the wall

Fan relay on PCB. Very common. Changed loads. If you take off the bottom grey panel so you can see the connections, have a look up inside and there should be a clear relay sort of in the centre. If it looks like there's been smoke in there (you should see the smoke staining), then it's the PCB on it's way. It'll get worse. The customer will probably hear a clicking noise when it tries to go through sequence. It'll never actually try to fire because the fan isn't running, unless the relay manages to stay closed.

I did the same in front of a customer. She said are the flames meant to be doing that? Ummmmm no!

Its our worst jobs the old intermitent. You can bet your bottom dollar when were stood infront of that boiler it will never miss a beat and we rely soley on custards info. Because it works when were there i feel like i cannot charge as never actually did anythin and u end up back n forth just waitin for the fault to reveal itself.. Boogar

I ended up swapping the pcb on it, spoke to Worcester tech who advised. I didn't actually see the fault first hand in the end, but it was for a good customer who owns a lot of properties who was getting annoyed with constant calls from the tenants moaning. So decided to take a punt on the pcb on the advice of Worcester, still not confident it was that but I haven't had a call to say its playing up again yet and its been about 4-5 days so fingers crossed its all ok.
